His work is universal. He is an inspiration to countless amounts of literature. His writings, whether they are the exact works, or adaptations, continue to become box office hits. But why is The Bard still so important in modern time? Because the issues and situations he wrote about relate to many issues and concerns still faced today. Shakespeare molded literature and theatre influences that we carry on to this day, making him infinitely relevant. Shakespeares influence is the base of most literature today. Whether references to his work are obvious or indistinct, connections can still always be identified. For instance, Aldous Huxleys Brave New World contains many both evident and vague references to Shakespeares work. For example, John recites a line from the Tempest (Shakespeare): "If thou dost break her virgin knot before all sanctimonious ceremonies may with full and holy rite" (Huxley 191) to Lenina. In that particular line, Prospero is telling Ferdinand that he can marry Miranda but that he'd better not take her virginity before they get married. John naturally agrees, which is why he recites it as the reason for not undressing Lenina before marriage, despite his urges. Huxley is just one of the many authors that excerpted Shakespeares work into his own writing. Its no surprise that there are so many movies made from Shakespeares stories considering he is the Father of theater dramas. He wrote many types of plays including tragedies, comedies, and histories. Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and MacBeth are just a few of his works that seem to be the most popular film adaptations already created and counting. The IMdb lists over783 movies and TV productions that are based on Shakespeares writing in someway. Shakespeares literature is crucial to filmmaking. Shakespeares use of human emotions in his stories ultimately infatuates his audiences. He wrote about situations we can relate to. The reason for our correlation is because the way he portrayed emotions in his writings was how he was successful in making people relate and feel connected. His ability to summarize the range of human emotions in simple yet profoundly eloquent verse is perhaps the greatest reason for his enduring popularity (Mabillard). William Shakespeare is known all over the world. His work is broad and wellknown. He is the influence of numerous amounts literature. His literature, whether its the verbatim works, or variations, progress to become box office hits. But why is The Bard still so important in modern time? Because the conflict and conditions he wrote about relate to many issues and concerns still faced today.
